glad that I had gotten up
I was sitting there leaning on my arm during this opening band, The National.
The the usher led this girl up the stairs and they stopped on my stoop and the usher pointing her flashlight at the seat next to me.
The girl said sorry as I stood up to let the pass.
When we were sitting together next to one another she kept her head turned carefully to not be looking at me. She fiddled with her cellphone.
We sat like that for a while. I casually looked in the other direction, so she wasn't in my peripheral vision. Then I would sneak a sidelong look and see she typing on her cellphone with her hair thrown over, covering her face from my direction.
She seemed a little uncomfortable. But I was too.
Then she got up and took off. I decided to also.
I went to the bathrooms, which ended up being deep under the building. The line went down three flights of stairs.
On the way back from the bathroom I saw that the ushers were relaxing and not checking tickets. I decided to not go back to my seat, and casually walked to the front of the stage where they weren't stopping people from standing.
I was glad that I had gotten up to go to the bathroom.
